THE MOVEMENT FOR HEALTH & HUMAN RIGHTS ADVANCES, from action to change, as we successfully held our 3rd International South Los Angeles Health and Human Rights Conference.  As a result of the conference and the convening of local, national and international human rights activists and leaders, lessons were shared and resources leveraged to move the health and human rights movement toward concrete policy change.  As a result, we are seeing marked and measurable improvements in the health and well-being of children, adolescents and families. In south Los Angeles and beyond, the challenge for health and human rights advocates going forward is not about whether we work together to seize this opportunity to achieve results, but about how.

On December 7, 2012, a broad-based coalition in south Los Angeles, a community whose health has been marred by a long history of inequity and neglect, highlighted homegrown solutions, explored transnational partnerships, and demonstrated the effectiveness of community-led, place-based, and results-oriented approaches to healthier communities and human rights.
